Whitfield Natural Textiles, a division of Whit-Tex, Inc., is a floor covering manufacturer nestled in the foothills of the pristine Blue Ridge Mountains in north Georgia. The company’s Pure Nature collection includes all-natural wool carpets, area rugs and padding for residential and commercial applications. Their goal is to improve customers’ indoor air quality while protecting our environment by using all-natural and sustainable raw materials in the manufacturing of the products. Whitfield’s 100% natural wool styles are offered in natural colorations as produced by Mother Nature. The unique and beautiful imperfections and color tones vary from product to product due to the wonders of natural wool. Wool is naturally antimicrobial, mold-resistant, fire-retardant, stain resistant and biodegradable. NO chemicals, such as dyes, fire retardants, moth proofing and stain treatments are used to ensure the healthiest carpet for your home or office.

WOOL INFO: The wool used in Whitfield carpet and rugs is from the UK where sheep farms are small, having on average 350 sheep. British sheep are raised naturally, outdoors on pasture. As a result, the scale and method of their lamb production is such that it is not considered an ‘intensive’ farming activity by animal welfare campaigning bodies. Sheep must be sheared once a year for their comfort and health, and wool is a naturally occurring by-product. Every year British Wool puts over a thousand people in all parts of the UK through two-day shearing training courses tailored to their existing level of experience and skill. Shearing in accordance with the best industry standards ensures that the process is stress free for the animal, as well as maximizing the value of producers’ wool.
CONSTRUCTION: Whitfield’s carpet and rugs are made in the USA of 100% untreated, chemical-free wool. The backing on their Pure Nature collection (offered on this website) is made with natural jute and cotton, and is attached to the wool face fiber with natural rubber. Their carpet padding, which is available in three thicknesses, is made in the USA with 100% first quality recycled wool.
SWATCHES: To see, feel and smell Whitfield’s products in person, we can send you up to eight swatches at no charge. Additional swatches are $2 each, invoiced after the order is received. We recommend getting swatches prior to purchasing carpet or rugs because color on screens is notoriously inaccurate and these products are not returnable.
SHIPPING: Estimated ground shipping for a rug in the continental USA: 4X6 = $55; 5X7 = $75; 6X9 = $115; 8X10 = $250. Estimated curbside delivery of 10×12 and 10×14 rugs = $295. Estimated commercial delivery of carpet = $195. Residential carpet delivery and some locations may be higher. Note that residential deliveries require heavy lifting to move carpet from the truck/trailer to the curb and/or to the home, and truck drivers are not required to help. Carpet weighs about 5 to 7 lb. per sq. yd., so it’s much easier for homeowners to have carpet delivered to a commercial location that their installer has access to. NOTE: Due to the rapidly increasing cost of shipping, carpet, padding, and rug shipping costs listed on our website are estimates. If the actual cost exceeds what you are charged by 10% or more, we may ask you to approve an additional payment, normally within four business days of purchase.
LEAD TIME: Most carpet and padding leaves Whitfield’s Georgia warehouse in less than a week, unless the style/color is back-ordered. If not in stock, carpet can take up to a month to be produced. Most rugs are made to order, which usually takes about 2-3 weeks. Please note that PureNature 62 (PN62, 62oz.) carpet is made to order, which can take up to a month. Lead times can be a bit longer during the year-end holiday season.
MEASURING: If you don’t know how much carpet you need you can send us a floor plan with the dimensions of each room you want carpeted, and we will provide a “ballpark” estimate. However, it is very important to have an installer measure prior to ordering to make sure he will commit to doing the job with the quantity you order. Most installers will measure for free.
CARPET INSTALLERS: An experienced wool carpet installer is recommended. Being natural, this product must be installed with care. To find a certified floor covering installer in your area, visit the International Certified Flooring Installers Association and the Natural Fiber Installer Certification directory. Other good referral sources are the Better Business Bureau, Angie’s List, Yelp, and local Facebook groups; and we have had very good luck asking local home builders, architects and remodeling contractors for a referral to their favorite installer.
SEAM TAPE: To make sure your installed carpet remains as pure as possible, ask your installer to use a low-VOC seam tape. One that we’ve used successfully is made by Premier Tape Products. Premier also carries low-VOC glue sticks if your installation requires the addition of tack strips around the room edges.
PHOTOS, SPECS & SAMPLES: Actual color may be different than it appears online. As the product uses natural wool and natural backing materials, we do not warrant for smells or odors; and it is subject to variances in color, shade and texture. Up to 8 free samples are available on request.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE: Vacuuming your carpet regularly will increase its performance. However, use of a suction-only vacuum cleaner is recommended, as beater bar vacuums may damage the fiber. [note from Organic and Healthy: though not officially recommended, we have been very happy with the performance of the Soniclean Soft Carpet SFC-7000 vacuum on our wool carpet and rugs] Stains can be carefully removed with cleaning agents designed for wool carpets, but vigorously rubbing an area will cause damage so use caution and blot the area instead of scrubbing it.  If you are unable to remove a stain, please call a professional cleaner and be sure to let them know that the fiber is 100% wool.
WARRANTY: Five-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects. Serged rug edges are not included in this warranty, as they are more easily damaged if not cared for properly. Some shedding and yarn sprouting are normal; yarn sprouts can be clipped with sharp scissors (do not pull). These products use natural undyed wool and may vary from swatches in color, shade and texture. This is normal and not a defect. No warranty is made as to the visibility of seams, matting, crushing, staining, burns, cuts, improper use of cleaning agents, carpet installed on stairs, damage caused by chairs with roller casters, or any other changes in appearance. Individuals with allergies and certain sensitivities might experience unforeseen reactions to this natural product, and no warranty is made for individual reactions.
