These rolls of wood slats are included with Dapwood’s platform beds to properly support heavy latex mattresses; and they are also available separately on this page. The untreated poplar slats (photo shows pine, but they are now made of poplar) are joined together with cotton webbing, and rolled up for shipping. The slats are 3/4 x 2.5 inches, and the standard space between them is about 3 inches, which is appropriate for most mattresses. If in doubt, check with the manufacturer of your mattress. 1.5 inch and 1/4 inch spacing are also available. 1/4 inch spacing is not recommended in most situations because it reduces ventilation to the mattress, which can lead to mold and mildew.
A roll of these sturdy wood slats can be used on most bed frames. To make sure they will work for yours, measure your frame carefully and compare to the exact width of the slat roll (see slat specs). If the width is not correct, you will need to order the next larger size and cut them upon receipt to the width needed. Since they are held together with a strap, the length is not as critical as the width because they are supported from the sides and can be moved back and forth in the frame lengthwise. Please be aware that the frame must have a lip for the slats to sit on. Normally screws are used to secure a few of the slats onto the bed frame to prevent movement. A board should also be used lengthwise beneath the center of the slats for proper support.
