These moisture barriers from Holy Lamb Organics are naturally water repellent, as the 1/8″ thick wool fabric is tightly woven and slightly felted. No chemical treatments or plasticizers are applied. The pad lays flat and is held in place without straps by your fitted sheet. Eco-wool is sheered from West Coast USA sheep that are not treated with antibiotics or hormones, and free-range graze on fields not treated with pesticides or herbicides. The wool is not cleaned with sulfuric acid; instead it is combed to retain purity while still providing a clean product. In addition to its water repellent properties, it is resistant to dust mites, bacteria and mold, and is naturally flame retardant.
These wool pads can be machine-washed according to the care instructions provided; however they should not need frequent washing because wool does not harbor bacteria or mold. Airing, rather than washing, will help the wool retain its natural lanolin. Should the pad become less water repellent over time it can be re-lanolized using the process used on wool diaper covers. Covering with a quilted pad, thick towel or blanket is suggested to reduce chance of leakage.
