This coconut coir pad is a firm one-inch thick mat made of coconut fiber (coir) infused with organic latex. The under-pad / bed rug is porous, and allows air to circulate between the bottom of your mattress and your platform bed’s surface. It is recommended to increase air flow under a mattress on a solid-platform bed, or for use as a breathable base for a futon or shikibuton. Inadequate air circulation under a mattress, futon or shikibuton can cause moisture buildup, and eventually mildew growth. The pad also helps prevent excess dipping and sagging, which can prolong the life of your futon or shikibuton.
